Every parish in the Diocese of Westminster is expected to promote a culture of safeguarding. This starts from the principle that each person has a right to expect the highest level of care and protection, love, encouragement and respect we can give. Therefore, at St Mary’s we take seriously our responsibility to comply with all all the requirements to safeguard children and adults who may be at risk.

Like all parishes we have a Parish Safeguarding Representative (PSR). A volunteer who provides assistance and support to our parish in Safeguarding matters.

The PSR's role is a very important one because it helps keep our parish community safe from harm and abuse by creating safe environments where everyone flourishes. The PSR works in partnership with the Parish Priest, Parish Leaders, Volunteers and Diocesan Safeguarding Team to ensure everyone can participate in parish activities happily and safely; especially those considered vulnerable including  children, young people, and adults at risk.

The four main areas of a PSRs role involve

  • Reporting and Responding to all Safeguarding concerns

  • Safe Recruitment of volunteers (including DBS applications)

  • Sustaining a safe environment in your parish

  • Promote a Culture of Safeguarding in parishes
