The start of Advent saw the start of a new Fundraising Year for us and the "thermometer" on the left shows how we are doing against our target.
For newcomers to the Parish and this Website, we should explain the challenge we have before us.
The restoration of the rectory building was completed in 2009 and now serves as a wonderful home for our priests and meeting place for the 40+ official parish groups and activities at St. Mary's. Every day it is alive with activity and it has done so much to help us build our community. The total cost of that restoration was £835,000 and turned a dilapidated house into a fine parish centre.
The Appeal began during the financial crisis of 2008 and, despite this, many parishioners donated an initial sum of £335,000. Since then we have run our Annual Appeal and over the last two years a further £150,000 has been given.
This is a marvellous effort in these difficult times and we offer our heartfelt thanks. The funding of the Project was made possible by a low interest loan from the Diocese repayable over 7 years by equal monthly instalments starting January 2010. Our original loan of £500,000, through your generosity, now stands at £363,085.
This is the third year of The St. Mary's Annual Appeal. The goal of this appeal is to raise £75,000 in the coming year to repay our mortgage debt plus the interest.
On the first Sunday of each month at each Mass, we have a second collection to contribute to this appeal campaign. In general, if each parishioner or family attending mass donates just £10 once a month during these second collections we will achieve our goal and much more. We will of course accept larger single donations from those members able to give more. Please donate as we cannot do it without everyone's support. We thank you in advance for your help.
