Music at St Mary's

St Mary's has a long tradition of Choral Music since its foundation. Research revealed that the Mass sung at the Consecration of the new Church in 1892 had been Weber's 'Mass in G' -- and the current Latin Mass Choir recreated that for the Mass celebrated by Cardinal Basil Hume in 1998, marking the Bicentenary of the founding of the Parish.

The Latin Mass Choir

The Latin Mass Choir has maintained its existence, throughout the decades, singing in Latin at the Solemn / Latin Mass on a Sunday Morning and also for all the major Liturgical Feasts. Members are all amateurs, fortunate to be led by a professional Director of Music, Malcolm Cottle, and are keen to maintain the Catholic Liturgical Choral Tradition which has existed through the centuries but remains now, sadly, at only a few Catholic Cathedrals and major Churches.
While this Sunday Mass is a Novus Ordo one, together with St Mary's Master of Ceremonies, Edward Barrett, the choir also arranges the Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Rite (Tridentine) which has been held annually at the Church, in August, since 1998.
The choir has a continually expanding repertoire which stands currently at over 50 Mass settings and 200 Motets from all periods and including Renaissance to Modern composers.

The Choir is always looking for new members.

Music at the 1000hrs Family Mass

The 1000hrs Sunday Family Mass includes singing hymns and settings of the Ordinary of the Mass for all the Congregation, supported by the organ. Come along any Sunday and introduce yourselves to the organist or the other singers standing around the organ. You will be made most welcome.

Singers are always wanted: Do you and your children attend the 10am Sunday Mass? Have you found yourself humming the songs coming out of church? If so, why don't you join our choir? There is a sign-up sheet at the back of church. For more information, please contact Francesca Pinto by clicking on the name.

Sunday Evening Choir at the 1830hrs Mass

The choir is a mix of nationalities who try to add at least one song with guitar every Mass and sometimes sing music in a language other than English. It meets every Sunday at 5:30pm to practice for the Mass and is always happy to receive new members for singing or to play an instrument.
The Choir is very proud to be the initiators of St Mary’s Carol Service that is now a tradition in our Church and in 2009 saw the attendance of around 400 parishioners.
If you would like to participate in our evening choir or in the next Carol Service, contact the choir after Sunday evening Mass or contact
