St Mary's Mini World Cup 2010
James Stacey writes: "The inaugural St Mary's Mini World Cup took place on Saturday 12th June. It was a wonderful occasion which brought together over 50 children from the Parish of St Mary's Cadogan Street and surrounding schools to play in a 5-a-side football tournament.

Each team adopted a nation from the 2010 World Cup being played in South Africa. Boys and girls aged 9 to 11 years old showed terrific skill, attitude, teamwork and most importantly great sportsmanship as the matches were played in a truly Christian spirit. The children were supported by family and friends and the Parish Clergy, Canon Stuart Wilson and Fr George Dagas.
Chile won an enthralling final against Australia and received a winners' cup which the children held aloft with great pride and joy. All the children who participated received medals and a clap and a cheer from the gathered crowd. The tournament began and ended with prayer and afterwards delicious refreshments were enjoyed in the sunshine in the beautiful Church garden to round off a day full of Blessings. Praise God for our wonderful young people. "

Fr George says:
"Winners were awarded with a gold medal, runners up with silver and all other teams with a bronze one. All medals however read "1st". At St Mary's, participation is even more important than winning. All children played together, made new friends and showed to everyone what it means to be kind - whether you win or not. That is why they all came first!"
